Mater Dei Catholic School

On behalf of the faculty and staff, we consider it an honor and a calling to partner with our parents in the intellectual, social, emotional and faith formation of our students.

Mater Dei Parish was formed in July 2006 by combining the former Assumption and Holy Name Parishes, both of which served the downtown Topeka area. Mater Dei Catholic School opened in August of 2006 with tremendous parish and parent support.

We are driven by our mission statement, which focuses on faith formation, scholarship and service. We are guided by three rules given to us by some very wise Catholic educators.

Faith Formation – Be Holy

Prayer is at the heart of our school. We pray daily as a whole school and in smaller groups. Our students participate in the Mass twice each week. Our students serve as lectors, cantors and servers in our school and parish liturgies. Our faculty members are active in their home parishes, serving in the liturgy and volunteering for councils and committees. They are committed to ongoing religious education.

Scholarship – Be Excellent

Mater Dei was built upon traditions of excellence and we seek to inspire our students and encourage lifelong learning. Our students participate in math competitions, science fairs, geography competitions, the county spelling bee and History Day. Our vocal choirs, band and drum line participate in multiple performances each year.

Our 2011 Kansas State Assessment Scores illustrated our commitment to rigorous academics, as we achieved 15 out of a possible 17 Standards of Excellence, including Building Level Standards of Excellence in Reading and Math for the fourth consecutive year!

We are grateful to be a school that is supported by the Catholic Education Foundation and we are proud recipients of the Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann School of Excellence.

Service – Love One Another

Our parents are shining examples of service and sacrifice. Parents and students serve the parish in ways too numerous to mention without leaving something out.
Our students collect food for the needy. Last year, our students provided Christmas for 8 families. Our students also help to raise funds for sick children who need medical care.
